"Just Like A Dog" is a peculiar track, an off-kilter Tom Waits-inspired bit of junk rock in which Dowd’s pained, paranoid croak sounds drenched in flopsweat and failure (imagine Peter Lorre's character from the movie M, re-cast as a three-time junkie loser, down and out in New Orleans -- now imagine it as a song). "Dog"'s torpid tempo is similar to Peggy Lee’s hit "Fever" (okay, it’s slowed waaay down), with a wobbly vintage synth that sounds like a theremin from a '50s sci-fi flick. Dowd's vocal quirks and the spooky, carnival-like feel of the track may put some listeners off -- for those who prefer a dose of moral terror in their country, this "dog" will feel like man's best friend.
