Words really cannot do justice to the music of Pook, a band of 4-track slingin' freaks who owe more than a nod to their main -- well, only -- influence, New Hope, Pennsylvania's Ween. But what the hell, Pook's music has merit on the weirdness scale, even if it is incredibly derivative. After listening to "Hello Kitty Generation" at least a dozen times, I'm convinced that it's either the most appalling piece of garbage ever made, or a work of sheer genius (but I'm leaning toward the latter). Play it at a party -- those who don't run screaming from the room are your new best friends.

For most of the '90s, Jay Sosnicki was the editor and publisher of the seminal underground zine Nuthing Sacred. These days -- in between explosive bursts of web production -- he continues to reinvent rock ‘n roll with his band, Mojo Rib.
