"Pretty Pictures" is another example of classic pop updated for a '90s alt-rock audience (think Ben Folds Five), and it's one of the better songs on the uneven August Everywhere. The arrangement is what elevates this track, with strings alternating between percussive and sweeping, and a hand-drum (!) kicking in midway through.
