There's only so much wine you can drink in one night, but there's no limit to the sweet sadness of this timeless country lament.

Though it was actually recorded in their apartment on a MacIntosh G3, this sweet and sad country lament (from the duo's new In the Air CD) sounds like it hails from some dying campfire or backwoods back porch. As with all of the Handsome Family's recordings, the lyrics -- about a lover who loves the bottle most of all, and the long-suffering man who's on the verge of giving up on her completely -- take center-stage, and are ably supported by a haunting melody and a few sparse layers of acoustic instrumentation. Though "So Much Wine" definitely has its share of dark humor, there's no sign of the self-conscious irony that runs rampant through much of what passes today for "alternative country." This is deep stuff, folks, and it gets deeper with each sip and every spin.

It simply does not get better. Warm baritone, ethereal harmony. Sad, powerful, lush.

A soothing voice and calming melody, make this a great song to listen to after a bad day or just to kick back too...
