  Monster Magnet
Silver Future
Album: Revelation
Genres: Metal
Dave Wyndorf sees the future, and Carson Daly isn't in it. Another mind-altering slab of hard rock from this righteous New Jersey crew.

Hard to tell if this skull-bustin' contribution to the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack is a leftover from Powertrip, or a hint of what's in store on Monster Magnet's forthcoming opus. Like Powertrip's "Space Lord", "Silver Future" starts out with a funky break-beat, a simple guitar figure, and a menacing Wyndorf vocal, then explodes with a sudden onslaught of power chords. The two-part chorus seemlessly merges a majestic refrain with an arena-ready chant, and Paul Stanley would undoubtedly sell his chest hair to write something half as good. Hard to tell whether Wyndorf views the "Silver Future" in question as an optimistic or apocalyptic prospect, but it doesn't really matter. The song is both funny and scary, and it rocks like a mutha -- three qualities which are largely absent from the piss-poor offerings of contemporary heavy metal.
