Waylon Jennings Closing In On The Fire Album: Closing In On The Fire
Genres: Alt-Country
The last real outlaw puts the pretenders in their place on this down-home, down 'n dirty rocker. |

There are lots of folks who offer up this song’s almost genreless blend of blues, rock and country -- including your local bar band. The difference is, none of those folks are Waylon Jennings, who has the vocal authority and sheer presence to give the track some teeth. His understated talk-singing here is closer in style to Lou Reed than his own signature baritone, but it doesn’t matter. When Jennings delivers the line "You must sacrifice/you must pay the price," you'll know you’re listening to one of the last of country’s real outlaws. |

Waylon is a true "Honky Tonk Hero". First, last and always, Waylon "Rules". There is something very wrong that the music coming from Nashville is all "pop" and the true country artists, like Waylon Jennings, Billy Joe Shaver, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson have to be searched out from the corners. |
