International Noise Conspiracy Smash It Up Album: Survival Sickness
Genres: Punk
This Swedish art-punk collective demands nothing less than a complete overthrow of the existing musical order. Last one to the barricades is a rotten egg! |

Not to be confused with the two-part Damned song of the same name, (I)NC’s “Smash it Up” offers three minutes of hyper-catchy jitter-pop backing Dennis Lyxzen’s urgent, agitprop lyrics. The band lures you with the chilly groove of a thrift-store organ and a steady backbeat, then builds relentlessly into a sonic statement of frustration with consumer society and its drones (the kind of thing the Clash were so good at way back when). Lyxzen’s sloganeering may be hopelessly naive, but at least it’s sincere -- and the music is exhilarating, which is a lot more than you can say for blowhards like Rage Against the Machine and the Makeup.

I heard this song first on punk o rama 5 and it was kinda weird.I didn't really like it at first but now I'm getting pretty fond of it.It breaks down any barriers of the sound.Hella cool bass line.

What is it with all these fantastic Swedish rock bands lately? I can't seem to get enough of them. I'd love to hear more of the International Noise Conspiracy, if this song is any measure of their talent. They prove you don't have to have a particularly heavy sound to be a political band. It's just dripping with intensity at times. I for one, like the naive lyrics, because I think they are so easy to relate with. (also by chance, the song has one of the best music videos I've seen in years.)
