They Might Be Giants Spiraling Shape (Live) Album: n/a
Genres: Pop
Some live tracks are a complete waste of time. Luckily, this isn't one of them. |

Live cuts can be hit or miss. If they're good, they ring with the energy of a talented band; if they're bad, they make you wonder who really recorded the studio version. Luckily, this live track from They Might Be Giants falls into the first category. "Spiraling Shapes," off 1996's Factory Showroom, is a classic example of the Giants' eccentric pop sound: noodling piano melody, drum beats heavy with their own irony, the charmingly nasal vocals of John Flansburgh and John Linnell. This rendition also highlights how well the two founding Johns have transitioned into a full-fledged band. It's tight, in tune, and free of any blaring goof-ups, showing just how good the Giants really are.
