  The Jayhawks
I'm Gonna Make You Love Me (Live)
Album: n/a
Genres: Alt-Country
A loose-fitting live version of one of the band's newer tracks, with a tune that's perfect for sunshine-soaked singalongs. An absolute must for any Jayhawks fan!

No, it's not a cover of that annoying Diana Ross song — this " I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" is actually a live version of a Jayhawks original (the studio version of which can be found on their new Smile CD), recorded in New York City in April 2000 for the Columbia Records Radio Hour. A lilting and lovely declaration of eternal devotion, "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" has the kind of sure-fire melody that's made to blast out of a poolside speaker, and it's sure to stick in your head after only one or two spins. And while some of the song's subtleties don't translate too well over the onstage microphones, I actually prefer this version to the one on the album, where the massed harmonies, mandolins and accordions come off as a trifle overbearing. This one's looser, mellower, and radiating sunshine out of every whole-note.

I like the album version of this song more than this recording. However, this recording still has the poppy, catchi-ness that will stick in you head and have you singing along. No matter how much of a cynic you may be, you'll wish someone would sing this for you...
