A common factor among bands that are able to weather the test of time and the fickleness of musical trends is consistency in what they do best and a refusal to compromise. "Cold Blue Coma" continues the precedents set by Downset on their previous efforts, while continuing to evolve into new sonic terrain.
Formed in Los Angeles and originally named Social Justice, Downset and it's members had been banging around the L.A. hardcore/hip-hop/graffiti scenes for a number of years before releasing their major label debut, downset in 1994. While many bands approach songwriting as a united front, Downset's music is fraught with the tension and excitement of different voices clamoring to be heard. The result is a thundering and solid foundation of musical and lyrical expression, best exemplified by 1996's Do We Speak A Dead Language, another socially-minded, yet personal and inwardly reflective effort.
Recorded exclusively for MUSICBLITZ, "Cold Blue Coma" is, once again, a reflection of Downset's ability to kick you in the head while still making you question the world around you. It's been a couple of years but the wait has well been worth it!
