Indigenous Little Time Album: Circle
Genres: Blues
Mato Nanji plays guitar like one mean mofo, but this SRV-influenced track isn't half as tasty as his licks. |

From the snarling opening notes of "Little Time," it's apparent that Mato Nanji means serious business. His playing exudes a definite "Voodoo Chile"-era Hendrix vibe, but he never stoops to plagiarism; his singing, which is reminiscent of a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughan and Los Lobos' Cesar Rosas, isn't too shabby, either. Too bad the rest of this track isn't up to the same level -- mostly, the song sounds like an undistinguished SRV outtake. The lead-off track from the band's Circle CD, "Little Time" seems like it only exists to prove that Indigenous can R-O-C-K with the best of 'em. That's cool, of course, but these folks are really capable of much, much more.
