Day by the River's "Bus" proves to be an experiment into how much a band can squeeze into less than four minutes of music. In this case, the answer is passionate vocals, funky breakdowns, smooth melodies and wailing solos. In this brief ditty, the quintet from Athens, Georgia displays adept skill in alternating the focus of the song from vocal to instrumental. All these ingredients and elements are punctuated by seamless transitions and swift swings of emphasis. The tune reflects a sonic sensibility in which rules cease to exist and predictability vanishes. In maintaining the delicate symmetry of this approach to crafting songs, "Bus" passes the test as each musician exercises discretion in recognizing just when to step out and the when to fall back. In a unusually short amount of time, Day by the River reminds us that quality still remains a very separate measure from quantity.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of jam bands, but I saw DBTR a few years ago at a festival and wanted to check them out again. So keeping in mind that I'm not a fan...while the musicians are all very talented, the song isn't very exciting or particularly innovative
