“I’m a chicken head man,” growls T-Model Ford on this, the finest cut from his brand-spankin’-new Fat Possum CD, She Ain’t None of Your’n. “When you a kill a chicken, baby, save me the chicken head.” The lyrics don't get a whole lot deeper than that, but the hard-edged music gets way, way down into the hypnotic depths of an almighty boogie groove. Listen to it on headphones, and you'll begin to start asking yourself some questions: Are there two guitars on this track, or only one? Is that a harmonica in the background? Is T-Model about to hawk up a loogie? Is that fluttering sound the ghost of a headless fowl, come back to wreak its horrific revenge on this seventy-eight year-old bluesman? It don't make no nevermind, of course; any way you chop it, this blues is as raw and as real as you'll find here in the Twenty-First Century.
