On another plane than most of their often materialistic, I'm-harder-than-thou brethren, this 5 member rap crew aims to "be the light amidst the darkness." In pass-the-mic style, they intertwine biblical imagery and historical allusions with b-boy-speak about turntables, microphones and record labels to express their devout love for hip hop. Some of it connects (they astutely liken ancient hieroglyphics to graffiti art); some it is pure non-sequitur freestyling.
Musically, the smooth 'n' jazzy guitar groove is certainly infectious, but the various MCs don't particularly ride the beat. In fact, their straightforward, artless deliveries often border on exposition as they pack the track with wall-to-wall lyrics. Clearly caring more about their "message" than motivating you to move your bod, IO delivers more of an interesting intellectual exercise than an enjoyable listening experience.

Kick back track. Nice melodic flows in instruments.

Infectious' beautiful, meaningful music showcases both the lyrical and musical talent of the group. And the CD doesn't nearly do justice to their live show.
