To think that music this phenomenal could result from several Mexican buffets, free access to a tequila Icee machine, and two packed houses at a tiny Mexican restaurant in Holland is beyond me. The beats of Trenchtown and the soul of Motown come together for this energetic live track found on The Slackers’ fourth album, Live At Ernesto’s (2000). Everything is tight on this single, from the hypnotic keys to delicious horn solos and vocal medley. The tremendously talented Vic Ruggiero weaves a raspy tale of a sketchy former friend who needs to get the point and quit comin’ ‘round. Fast and frantic, “Face In My Crowd” begs you to bop your head and skank to the beat.
