Hard living, but easy listening on this silky-smooth roots recollection of tough times in shantytown! |

Kingston natives Bread and Pipe lived through the “ghetto wars” they sing about here, where you “fall asleep/and you could lose your ground.” But in true roots tradition, they’ve made the sound of that struggle a compelling one on this MUSICBLITZ Exclusive, using their trademark harmonies and a gently-loping groove (courtesy of Sly & Robbie) to forge an easy entry into their not-always-pleasant memories. One of the more pop-friendly cuts on their new MUSICBLITZ Records release, Equality, “Hard Living” offers heavy dreadness you don’t have to dread, an admirable balance between the call of the charts and the conscious philosophy that’s always helped give the Souls their soul.
