With little over two minutes to spare, Cannibal Corpse commence to pound you into dust on this track. What makes "Pounded Into Dust" live up to its vivid title is the band's economical use of structure: for once, no multitudinous riff- or time-changes here. The rhythm section thankfully only shifts between fast 'n' furious Slayer-esque tempos and slightly faster blast-beat ones, thereby making the violence easier to follow. During the Slayer-gone-grind verses, frontman George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher lays down some impressive rhythmic growling that meshes like a glove with the song’s staccato riffing. And once you recognize the transitions – specifically, Fisher's grunt-to-wretch of the song title, which signals "the chorus" --"Pounded Into Dust" actually becomes (gasp) somewhat catchy. Finally, a no-bullshit song from a normally bullshit band.
