Dogstar Cornerstone Album: Happy Ending
Genres: Rock
You’ve seen Keanu Reeves’ movies, now listen to his bass -- but you’ll have more fun if you turn off the stereo and rent a copy of Point Break. |

Dogstar producer Michael Vail Blum has worked with the Goo Goo Dolls, whose radio-friendly, grunge-informed vibe seems to be the template for Dogstar’s US album debut, Happy Ending. “Cornerstore” is a particularly lackluster example of this sound, complete with lachrymose string section and gruff, “emotive” vocals. Brett Domrose’s songs crumple underneath Blum’s elaborate production, making it impossible to find anything unique or defining about his band’s sound. This track’s for novelty value only.

Not at all as bad as I thought it would be, but this band would still be playing in empty clubs if it wasn't for Keanu...it wasn't great songs that got them signed.
