No Doubt Cellophane Boy Album: n/a
Genres: Alternative,Pop
Don't look for more ska-pop here. This new track from No Doubt is polished, personal and -- gasp! -- mature! |

One of the key bands to bring ska back into style in 1995, No Doubt have spent the past five years on recording hiatus, resting on the laurels of their hit album, Tragic Kingdom. If this track from their 2000 release, The Return of Saturn, is any indication, the band has only matured during its time away. Horns blare during the song's interlude, but its overall melody hints more at British pop bands like Blur and even the Beatles than ska. Gwen Stefani's vocals, meanwhile, sound more polished than in the past, yet her lyrics -- steeped in personal references -- still resound with all the emotion of a confessional. A more subdued offering than the singles that made the band famous, "Cellophane Boy" shows No Doubt have put their downtime to good use -- they've broadened their musical boundaries, refined their sound, and allowed themselves to grow.

nice...worth the download, its a shame real jukebox doesnt have a repeat button!!!
carly
This new song is excellent. It should have been on their new CD! It has a Courtney Love-ish sound at first, yet includes the diversity of Gwen Stepani's mature voice. They still have that Ska flare, but their sound as a group have grown and matured!
