Although he still manages to reference that style on his solo debut, Samsara, Maxwell also shows his versatility and talent by throwing around a number of additional genres as well. "Can't Sleep" finds Maxwell exploring the classic gospel/blues form that has its roots in the earliest part of the century -- Maxwell's spin on the genre falls comfortably between authentic recreation and pop reinvention, with a howling guitar adding a potent counterpoint to the track’s barrelhouse piano.
