Opening with a melancholic melody and a punch-drunk tempo, “Astral Empire” soon picks up pace -- a very fast pace. Cascading blast-beats and tricky, dissonant riffing signal the song’s next transition until, like a car crash, everything halts and vocalist Maurizio Iacono belches the line “third from the sun!” Following a chugging breakdown of steamroller proportions, guitarist Jean-Francois Dagenais unloads a ripping, In Flames-esque lead. The song then returns to the cascading blast-beats and dissonant riffing, only to return to the relative calm of the melancholy opening melody.

And contrary to popular belief, he doesn't only like heavy metal.
