"Rock and Roll"? You bet your ass! Built off a jam on Little Richard's "Keep 'a Knockin,'" this monster Zep track encapsulates the elements that have always defined the best rock music from day one -- the ballzout energy, the ridiculous-but-right lyrics, the unfettered joy of the vocals and playing -- as played by a group of randy young Brits who'd only begun to peak. Like "Brown Sugar" or "Johnny B. Goode," it's one of a handful of tracks that can be recognized anywhere on earth as the esssence of that thing we call rock and roll. Turn it up the volume, light up a joint, and surrender to the feeling, baby -- there's no denying this one.
