While not a major departure from such ass-shakin’ hits as “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New)” and “Fantastic Voyage,” the grooves here are a little more on the G-Funk tip, bringing to mind late ‘80s R&B hitmakers like Bobby Brown and Tony Toni Toné. The herky, jerky beats may evoke Busta Rhymes’ “Dangerous,” but where Busta takes a minimalist approach, Coolio’s sound is much fuller and deeper. Rhymes like “Float like a butterfly, kick like Lee, talk more s*** than Ali” will bring a big smile to your face, and the sing-along chorus will have you listening intently to see if your city gets a shout-out, as Coolio takes the party national.
