Coolio puts the flow back in your ear with “Par-Lay 2001,” a funky MUSICBLITZ Exclusive that will make you want to par-TAY! While not a major departure from such ass-shakin’ hits as “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New)” and “Fantastic Voyage,” the grooves here are a little more on the G-Funk tip, bringing to mind late ‘80s R&B hitmakers like Bobby Brown and Tony Toni Toné. The herky, jerky beats may evoke Busta Rhymes’ “Dangerous,” but where Busta takes a minimalist approach, Coolio’s sound is much fuller and deeper. Rhymes like “Float like a butterfly, kick like Lee, talk more s*** than Ali” will bring a big smile to your face, and the sing-along chorus will have you listening intently to see if your city gets a shout-out, as Coolio takes the party national. In short, it’s another surefire hit that’ll pack the dance floors and blast out of the windows of every car headed to the beach this summer.
