Julie Miller Ride the Wind To Me Album: Broken Things
Genres: Alt-Country
This is one "ride" you'll never forget -- a high-lonesome home run from alt-country's reigning sweetheart. |

Part of what makes "Ride the Wind to Me" is Julie Miller's incredibly lovely vocals. Her range recalls fellow traveler Iris Dement, though it’s never as forced or irritating as Dement's high-country twang. On the contrary, Miller’s voice has a natural charm, conveying the feelings of both hurt and hope that permeate the tune. “Wind" is one of Miller's best songwriting efforts as well, a tender portrayal of one woman's perception -- and love -- of a broken-down man. Raw and rough-edged, the tune recalls some of Emmylou Harris's best latter day material: smart, sad, to the point and full of heart. Miller gets help from an excellent backing band, including journeyman drummer Brady Blade and some hot guitar licks and sweet harmonies from husband Buddy. An excellent piece of alternative country/folk rock pathos.

Julie Miller [& husband studio wiz Buddy Miller] have crafted one of the best albums in recent memory. Its honest heartfelt lyrics & simple yet stately melodies are mesmerizing. Do yourself a favor & pick up this album.

Sounds like Sam Phillips and Susanna Hoffs had a baby -- and in this case, in a strange way, that's a really good thing.

Very reminiscent of Lucinda Williams. Great sounding MP3. Definitely check it out.
