Like many of Whodini’s classic tracks, the original “One Love” was heavy on the R&B-flavored grooves. DJ Swingsett & Dave Warren’s “High Bias Mix,” recorded for (but not used on) Jive Electro’s compilation Old School Vs. New School Vol. 2, eradicates almost all evidence of those grooves, replacing them with tech-heavy, rapid-fire beats and cuts and booming drum n’ bass. It’s an interesting experiment, but the loss of Whodini’s traditional warmth will almost definitely leave hardcore fans feeling out in the cold. As a turn-of-the-century dance club stomper, though, the mix will surely get feet moving. |
