The “girl from the gutter” isn’t always pissed off, as illustrated by this feel-good affirmation of self. |

The carrot-topped singer/wailer branded as the pissed off “girl from the gutter” shows us another side of herself. On this folky, pop-rock number, she sounds like a cross between Dionne Farris and Tina Turner as she belts out lyrics about the importance of giving ourselves the love and respect we deserve. She’s been weak, she’s been low, she tells us, but right now she’s bursting with confidence, self-esteem and joy. “I wish everybody could feel this kind of love,” she offers. It’s catchy and uplifting — putting you right on top of the world with her.

Not sure that her sound sets her apart from any of her influences. The melody and chorus seemed obviously re-hashed pop.
