Culled from Club Daze: The Studio Sessions Vol. 1, a collection of early pre-MTV recordings, Twisted Sister's "TV Wife" is something of a revelation. Anyone expecting the anthemic, arena-ready crunch of "We're Not Gonna Take It" or "I Wanna Rock" may be a bit disappointed, but the tune is an interesting (albeit poorly recorded) glimpse into the band's gestation period. Reminiscent of the raunchy rock of the New York Dolls, "TV Wife" is a satirically sharp, borderline sexist look into the addictive qualities of daytime television. Musically, you can tell the band was still looking for their sound -- the blues-soaked boogie of the chorus clashes with the rest of the song's hard rockin' punch, and Dee Snider's obnoxious yelp has yet to surface. Frankly, he sounds more like a Vegas lounge singer than the clownish frontman we grew to know and love. Though it’s not one of Twisted Sister's best songs, "TV Wife" is nevertheless a nifty inside look at the early days of one of cock rock's most interesting outfits.
