Simple and snappy, this ’88 hit struck an early blow for fed-up females in the dancehall. Perhaps the best-known variation on the so-called “Kuff” riddim (it’s also been known as “Bam Bam”, not to be confused with the riddim that fueled hits like “Murder She Wrote”), this track advocates taking no s--- from your man if he’s doing you wrong. But the amusing lyrics -- “left me a yard with your dirty laundry / look ‘pon me, me nuh look crazy!” -- as well as the male chorus that adds an occasional “Kuff!” to simulate Shelly’s Thunder-ous punches, lets you know this is more tongue-in-cheek sass than feminist creed. An essential piece of dancehall history.
