The leadoff track to the album of the same name, Todd Snider's "Happy to Be Here" is a cleverly disarming look at political scandals in modern America -- particularly those of an unnamed former Arkansas governor -- and basically how silly it all is. He gently mocks the media's take on such scandals, making the point that, though we're outraged by the offending party’s actions, we also encourage both the politicians and the media by our salacious interest in the foibles of public figures. Outrage is fine and understandable, Snider says, but we’d be better off seeking out the simpler pleasures in life. "Happy to Be Here" is a great song, one of Snider's best and reasserts his position as one of the brightest lights on the modern singer/songwriter scene.

I ran out and grabbed an earlier cd of his after hearing this...whole lot of fun!

The song is upbeat and fun to listen to, but it sounds like he is trying to hard to have a twang...it sounds very forced.
