Genres: Jambands
These guys ain't overrated -- they live up to the hype, even without Colonel Bruce Hampton at the mic! |

Armed with a voice fulla blue-eyed soul, Paul Henson may be the lead singer, but it's brothers Kofi and Oteil Burbridge (keyboards & bass, respectively) who truly lead the Aquarium Rescue Unit through this jazzy little jam-gem. Oteil really shines here, at one point singing along with his intricate basslines in a unique game of tag -- you're never sure which will catch up first, his voice or the bass -- and Kofi hits the keys with the kind of confidence that secured him a spot playing with Stevie Wonder. Jimmy Herring is kind of in the shadows on this track, but Apt. Q258 (aka Jeff Sipes) isn't shy about laying down the beats. Henson's vocals will make you wanna knock back a shot of whiskey just to see if you can emulate his raw style. "Ain't got time for no half-heart, unless it's from the very start," Henson sings -- but you won't have to worry about ARU doin' anything half-heartedly on this track.
