Victoria Williams Claude Album: Water To Drink
Genres: Alt-Country
Vic pulls out every eccentric hiccup from her odd little bag of musical tricks on this track from her new album, Water to Drink. |

Victoria Williams' odd vocal style is enough to put some people off no matter how brilliant her songs happen to be. On "Claude," from her album Water to Drink (2000), Williams not only amps up her quirky vocals, but also composes in an even more eccentric style than on her previous efforts. Musically, the track reaches for a French pop feel; it’s an airy and sugary confection that is certainly sweet and melodic enough, but it offers little in the way of real lasting value, despite some terrific sonic touches from venerable producer/arranger Van Dyke Parks. The trouble with "Claude," is simply the song itself -- recommended for Williams' most hardcore fans only.

This song sounds like it's trying to be an oldie and Victoria Williams sounds like she's using her baby voice...Worth a listen if you're a fan of Macy Gray???
