Bob Marley Kinky Reggae (feat. The Marley Brothers & The Ghetto Youths Crew) Album: Chant Down Babylong
Genres: Reggae
What becomes a legend most? Not this junk-funk trashing of one of Marley’s finest, that’s for sure. |

What else needs to be said about this hip-hop flavored reworking of the Marley classic except that it’s completely unnecessary? Just because a funky beat slides easily underneath the reggae riddim is no justification for tampering with the master’s work, and the gratuitous rap vocals add another layer of graffiti. Unlike the dub reconstructions of Marley’s work that Bill Laswell offered up a couple of years ago, this one has little imagination; you’d expect a little more from Bob’s own flesh and blood. There are just some artists whose work has a dignity that demands the same of anyone bold enough to screw with it, and this is a prime example of how to just screw it up.

Bob Marley is a legend anything he does should be considered a national treasure for the country of Jamaca. And this track is no exception.
