The Florida techno sound is not known for it’s finesse and subtlety, often beating its listeners into submission with the big sticks of over-the-top bass and bull-in-a-china-shop drum sounds. But on “Thousand Miles,” Orlando native DJ Icey proves to be the exception to the rule for dance producers in the region. The ‘80s influenced drum programs are there, but instead of sounding cheap and amateurish, they make this track resonate with a kind of old-school legitimacy. Sparse bass drops underscore this phat techno track that tips it’s hat to both electronica godhead Kraftwerk, and the killer sound of Soul Sonic Force's Looking For The Perfect Beat. Like the original Star Wars flic re-released with a new scene or two and enhanced special effects, DJ Icey’s take on techno sends retro into the future; refining, sharpening -- and kicking ass.

More bass, more groove, less kink baby. I need to feel my body shake, you can't fool around with cheap sound effects and useless drum fills. Give me a break, you gotta put your heart into it!

I found this to be an Icey track that had its good parts and its bland ones. It doesn't slam like his better stuff, yet it is better than most. Icey is the man to look at when talking about Florida Breakz, Firestone all the way!
