Anyone who's caught Otis Rush on a good night can vouch for the man's effortless ability to mix soul and blues idioms as he pleases. Co-produced in 1998 by the legendary Willie Mitchell, the man responsible for Al Green's great Hi sides, this Little Milton-penned track from Any Place I'm Going is pretty much a fifty-fifty soul/blues split; the swelling horns, stately organ, and funky kick-drum make for a delicious Memphis soul stew, while Otis's aching vocals and stinging guitar work are strictly bone-in blues. The seven-minute track may be a bit too clean and measured-sounding for those who swear by the unhinged dementia of Otis's late-'50s Cobra sides, but it's hard not to be impressed with the man's talent and resilience. Even in his mid-sixties, the man can still stop your heart with a well-laced string bend.

as good as it gets! The rhythm... the mood... the works. I don't give 5 stars ever..well hardly ever. I loved this arrangement.

I've enjoyed Otis Rush for many years but I think I have heard very few of his tracks that I have enjoyed more. If you're just getting to know his music, you could do a lot worse than downloading this selection.
