Those monotone vocals. Those sparse electro-drum crashes. And, of course, those eerie, groovy synths. It’s all here on this in-concert rendition of the late ‘70s British pop star’s major claim to fame -- but don’t expect any surprises. The live take is a little looser than the studio classic; Numan’s delivery isn’t quite as robotic; and some of the lyrics get a bit buried amidst the Kraftwerky milieu. But for the most part, he faithfully re-creates the hit that put him on the U.S. pop map. The only real addition here is some sporadic crowd cheering. In other words, we prefer to stick with the original. Recommended for Numan diehards only. |

Just like the original, this version of cars remains redundant and a bit obnoxious. This only differnce is that the live performance lacks the steadiness and timing if the studios electronic timing, only worsening the performance. If you have any likingness towards this tune already, stay away. |
