Finger 11 Drag You Down Album: Greyest Of Blue Skies
Genres: Alternative,Metal
Hook-laden accessibility is one thing; hook-laden predictability is another. Finger Eleven’s “Drag You Down” is that “another.” |

Mixing Tool’s math-minded contortions with Coal Chamber’s mastodon stomp, the tragically named Finger Eleven offer a weighty dose of lurch ‘n’ crunch on “Drag You Down.” But is heavy metal thunder alone enough to satisfy – in this case, no. Vocalist Scott Anderson moves from a spidery, woe-is-me twitch during the verses to an impassioned bellow come chorus time – a time-honored metal tradition, but one that’s wearing a bit thin. His bandmates’ contributions are no less predictable -- a simple, stuttering riff, played at two different volumes: soft during the verses, loud during the chorus. The group does score extra points for the contrasting Radiohead-ish melody toward the song’s end, though.
