Not on any album, "Our Thing" was recorded at Sonora Studios in Los Angeles on May 21, 1997. Janet Weiss and Sam Commes of Quasi played drums and bass and Elliott played everything else.

The stripped-down instrumental styling and song structure of “Our Thing” is an oddity, for even though this slightly symphonic song does not indulge itself with lavish orchestration, it does develop into a powerful soundscape where the guitar, piano and (synthetic) strings combine to form an intimate arrangement. Delicate but dramatic, “Our Thing” exemplifies Elliott’s trademark taste for ethereal sound. It's an acquired taste, but worth a listen if you are about ready to go to bed.

Beautiful, what else needs to be said?

Not one of Elliott's best, it has a catchy melody though, I guess it really grows on you.

Soft emo at it's finest. Elliot Smith make whining seem sweet. He is very intelligent and it shows in hie lyrics.
