The Unband Everybody Wants You Album: Retarder
Genres: Rock
A roughed-up version of the Billy Squier classic, which keeps the handclaps but otherwise lacks the flamboyance of the original. Could "Lonely Is The Night" be next? |

Ah, Billy Squier was great, wasn't he? Surfacing at a time when Led Zeppelin had just ended and Queen was becoming increasingly disco-fied, Squier created a chart-friendly fusion of the two that served as a more than adequate substitute for rock-starved heshers everywhere. Then came the "Rock Me Tonight" bodystocking video fiasco, and Billy was history. Here, The Unband pay throat-burning tribute to one of the great unsung rockers of the early '80s. Their Motorhead-esque version (which is included on their Retarder CD) is pretty straightforward -- they even leave in the opening handclaps -- but ultimately lacks the mousse-headed flamboyance that made the original such a gas. It's fairly funny the first time, and would certainly make for a humorous mid-set digression, but why put it on your album? I guess that's what they make CD remotes for.

I'm having flashbacks...but it's just not the same. maybe if these guys made new material for me to hear- I could tell you if they were good or not- how is it possible to judge when they're playing music that isn't theirs.
