Rappin’ 4-Tay has been cranking out tales of the pimpin’ lifestyle for years now, but unlike other Gs, he’s continued to refine the M.O., getting it down to the essential components. He’s just about got the formula perfected, judging by “Big Pimpin’,” a new MUSICBLITZ Exclusive. In less than three minutes, 4-Tay lays out his blueprint for “boss livin’”: making big bank and chatting up the spoken-for (“You say your man at home waitin’ up / Oh well”) and the underage (who get the obligatory invite backstage). The key difference between this and other gangsta tales, however, comes in 4-Tay’s kindler, gentler approach. Sounds funny to say that about Too $hort’s old running buddy, and yet it’s true: 4-Tay delivers his verses as good-natured celebration, instead of threat, and keeps the bleeps to a bare minimum. And his way with a tune is equally friendly, as “Big Pimpin’” hits straight out of the box, powered by an irresistibly bouncy synth bass line and swooping strings. While other rappers looking for street cred come out as hard as possible, 4-Tay has managed to keep his rep intact, while still reaching out to the casual listener. He should hook more than a few with this tasty new jam.
