Lucinda Williams Lafayette Album: The Best Of Broadside 1962-1988
Genres: Alt-Country
A sweet and nostalgic Cajun two-step from Lucinda's early years. You can practically smell the crawfish a-boilin'! |

With its wistful fiddle cadences and spritely two-step strumming, "Lafayette" is both sunnier and more unabashedly romantic than Lucinda Williams' recent output. Originally released on 1980's Happy Woman Blues LP, the song is a charming celebration of Lafayette, Louisiana, complete with reference to Clifton Chenier, the King of Zydeco music. While the song isn't Zydeco per se, Lucinda's appealingly woozy melody should strike a chord with anyone who's ever let the bontemps roulez down in bayou country. "I might just dance until 3," brags Lucinda, and it doesn't sound like a half-bad idea at all.

Fans of her Car Wheels album will dig this tune. A great way to check out her old stuff. See why Bill Murray would only host SNL if she was the musical guest.
