Hailing from Southern California, Strung Out take hold of their punk roots and expand them into a unique blend of metal-core and punk on the MUSICBLITZ Exclusive track “Betrayal”. The evolution of their sound was most evident on their latest Fat Wreck Chords EP, The Element of Sonic Defiance, and has come to life with the new single “Betrayal”. From the first click of the drumsticks to lead singer Jason Cruz’ final upbeat bellow, this hard-hitting gem takes you on raucous punk-metal journey through one person’s own indecisions and uncertainties. The beginning bass line brings you in with a deceptively gentle but deep melody line, which builds as chunky guitars gather to form a unison force of solid stop and go punk. Rhythmic punk lyrics get delivered with a full-on throaty growl, pummeling you with the message “Tell me where, tell me how, tell me where I am supposed to go.” Tight chords carry through to a revealing section where Jason waxes desolately about “a one way trip to the center of my spine / To the desert I call my mind.” The song gets splattered with a spectacular metallic guitar solo, leaving any self-respecting air guitar fiend reaching for the big Strat in the sky. “Betrayal” takes the punk fanatic as well as any hard music enthusiast into a realm that seamlessly blends ultra-heavy chording and punk themes -- a place where few bands can tread.
