After waiting for nearly 3 years for new music, Wallflowers fans won’t be disappointed with this well-crafted track from the new album Breach. Shades of Tom Petty, Brian Ferry, and even the Psychedelic Furs run throughout an impressive and subtle arrangement that underscores the band’s greatest strength (no surprise, considering the pedigree) … songwriting. On one hand sounding like a lyrical musing over the breakdown of a relationship -- and on the other, an expression of existential weariness, the vocals of frontman Jakob Dylan have a hypnotic quality that’s echoed skillfully in the lush and haunting production. Clearly, some time has been spent in the studio here, and the grueling work required to produce this kind of sophisticated sound pays off big time. Dripping with raw inspiration, this track bodes well for a great third album and a long career from this much-underrated band. |
