He's been proving his skills on San Francisco turf for the past several years; he schooled himself through stints with various DJ cliques -- most notably the Phunkateck crew -- before emerging as a talented DJ in his own right. He's known for his menacing beats, but his tracks are spotted equally as easily through their reliance on a simple rhythmic loop. On this track, that loop consists of beats churned out by a drum machine pumped up on the computerized equivalent of speed. Fat keyboard squelches, meanwhile, battle the beats for dominance of the track, and it's hard to say which one wins. That is, until the beats disappear for a brief interlude -- in which analog swooshes sweep across the track like the wind over a barren plain. Abstract then drops the beats back in the mix for a slamming encore that closes out the track.
