Similar Songs Critic's Review Ratings & Reviews Related links   8MB RealAudio      Need a free Player?      Download Help           The very young men of Addison Groove Project are onto something with their groovy mix of funk with a splash o’ hip-hop flava on “Ben’s Song.” Recorded at Berkfest in 1999, the track starts out all dark and dank with a nice, phat wah-wah guitar and an even phatter bassline. Then, out of nowhere, we’re treated to a cooler’n hell DJ scratching to serve as foundation to the funky horns. It’s a really nice touch in what could’ve been a run-of-the-mill instrumental track; the only drag is the incessant talking of two folks standing by the mics. The song builds at a steady rhythm, reaching a crescendo about ¾ of the way through, but instead of blowing it up all crazy-like, they smooth it out and take you down nice and easy, scratching and grooving the whole way through.
