St. Germain Born Ludovic Navarre, St. Germain distinguishes himself from his fellow French producers by using jazz, rather than house music, as the basis for his music. Navarre started recording during the early 1990s under numerous names such as Sub System, Deep Contest, Deepside, L 'n' S, Soofle and Modus Vivendi. His first EPs as St. Germain, French Traxx and Motherland, appeared in 1994, released on Eric Morand and Laurent Garnier's F Communications label. With his first full-length, 1996's Boulevard, he began fusing electronic music and jazz; the result was quite successful, as the album was nominated for Record of the Year in England, as well as for London's Dance Music Awards. After a lengthy hiatus, Navarre returned in 2000 with Tourist. |
