MUSICBLITZ HOSTS DEALBLITZ EVENT TO GIVE BANDS ON-THE-SPOT RECORDING DEALS AT SXSW

Wayne Kramer, Former Guitarist of The MC5, and Other Music Industry Veterans to Determine Winners of MUSICBLITZ Recording Deals

Los Angeles, CA-March 7, 2000-In light of the recent music industry consolidation and impending cut backs in artist signings at the major labels, musicians will no longer need to wait for months or sign options on long-term contracts to get a record deal. On Friday, March 17 at The Copper Tank Brewing Company in Austin, TX, in conjunction with the SXSW Music Conference and Festival, MUSICBLITZ is holding DealBLITZ - an event that will give up-and-coming musicians an opportunity to perform in front of both a live and an Internet audience for the chance to win a MUSICBLITZ recording deal on the spot. A panel of judges will determine which bands will win a one-song MUSICBLITZ recording deal. These deals include financial compensation and the resources (producers, studio time, session musicians, distribution, marketing and promotion) necessary for the musicians to record and release their new music.

MUSICBLITZ is a consumer-oriented music company that is redefining the relationships between consumers, artists and record labels by providing the resources and funding for established and up-and-coming artists to record exclusive new singles. Music fans can download these songs for free at MUSICBLITZ's Web site (http://www.musicblitz.com) and in its genre-specific Web communities. MUSICBLITZ continues to promote its music, and the artists who create it, by licensing it for use in film, television, commercials, soundtracks and compilations.

"The recent mergers in the music business have significantly reduced the number of new artist signings by the major labels. Every day we're seeing more and more talented bands without record deals, so now we are providing an alternative option," said Mike Mena, vice president of artist development at MUSICBLITZ. "MUSICBLITZ's goal at SXSW is to offer immediate gratification to the hottest, most deserving up-and-coming musicians. By giving away singles deals, we are removing the shackles that come with a traditional long-term recording contract, and we're giving musicians an instant deal in the most democratic setting they're ever likely to experience."

Beginning at 11:30 a.m. and running until 5:30 p.m. on March 17, DealBLITZ will feature four bands per hour, each of which will take the stage to play one song. A rotating panel of expert judges will democratically determine, on the spot, whether or not each band walks away from SXSW with a recording deal from MUSICBLITZ. The entire DealBLITZ event will also be broadcast live on the Web at www.musicblitz.com, giving music fans everywhere the ability to watch each band's performance - and the judges' verdicts - live.

"At MUSICBLITZ, we not only want to give deserving artists a fair deal, we are passionate about creating the best resource on the Web for all music lovers," added Mena. "By evaluating live performances at DealBLITZ, we hope to introduce consumers to the best music out there and we want to discover the great bands that can potentially go on to have long and meaningful careers."

DealBLITZ judges will include a number of music industry veterans and respected journalists. Some of the people who will be on hand to help MUSICBLITZ discover new bands include Mike Halloran, the former music director at 91X in San Diego who discovered the multi-platinum artist Jewel; Wayne Kramer, former guitarist of the seminal punk band The MC5 and renowned producer and solo artist; and Dave Sprague, journalist for Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Musicians interested in participating in DealBLITZ can submit demo tapes to MUSICBLITZ (attn. SXSW IG) through March 10. Shipping information is available online at http://www.musicblitz.com/statichtml/contact.cfm. Contestants will be notified of their selection up to one week before the event. Tapes will also be accepted at MUSICBLITZ's booth at SXSW (number: 6465) up until 5.00 p.m. on March 16. Bands are responsible for their own transportation to Austin, as well as their lodging.

In addition to up-and-coming talent, MUSICBLITZ also works with established musicians who are interested in recording music on their own terms. Some of the artists who have already recorded with MUSICBLITZ include Aimee Mann, the multi-platinum modern rock band formerly known as the Presidents of the United States of America, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Ricky Bell and Ronnie DeVoe from Bell Biv DeVoe and New Edition, Taj Mahal, Maceo Parker, Wailing Souls and many others. Collectively MUSICBLITZ artists have sold more than 20 million albums and won Grammy, Soul Train, American Music and W.C. Handy Awards.
