Welcome !
    Galactic
Galactic continues to master an original melding of funk, jazz, delta-blues, rock, and even heavy metal (they cover songs by everyone from Duke Ellington to Black Sabbath), and in the year 2000, find themselves at the forefront of a new funk revolution. Anchored in a rich history pioneered by acts like The Meters, Galactic have paved the way for a burgeoning scene showcasing instrumental jams and a drive to move the crowd to do nothing but dance.

Galactic originated with bassist Robert Mercurio and guitarist Jeff Raines -- both grew up in Washington, D.C. and then followed the funk to New Orleans where they attended Tulane and Loyola respectively. The two started a band called Galactic Prophylactic, and soon immersed themselves in the New Orleans funk and blues scene, where they eventually met singer Theryl DeClouet. After several personnel changes, the duo joined forces with drummer (and New Orleans native) Stanton Moore. Shortly after, keyboardist Richard Vogel and sax player Ben Ellman were added to the mix, and the line-up was almost complete. Deciding they needed to be a bit more "serious," the group changed their name to Galactic. Just before recording their full-length Fog City Records debut, 1996's Coolin' Off, the band invited DeClouet to join them for a few tracks. DeClouet, or "The Houseman" as he's called, was added as a permanent member, and Galactic was complete.

Galactic has managed to spread their brand of raw, dirty Delta funk by way of non-stop touring, building a devout, enthusiastic fan base along the way. Now signed to Capricorn Records, which released Crazyhorse Mongoose in 1998, and Late For The Future in 2000, Galactic shows no signs of slowing down -- and for that, we can be all be grateful. Now strap on yer boogie shoes and dance!
