Snoop Dogg presents Doggy's Angels
Members of a female rap collective from the heart of South Central, Big Chan, Coniyac and Kola were the second signing to Snoop Dogg’s own label, Doggystyle Records (after the platinum-selling Eastsidaz). They reached Snoop’s ear through a West Coast hip-hop producer JellyRoll, and he was immediately interested in inking Big Chan to a contract. But all three passed an audition for Tha Doggfather, who was also checking out rhyming females with an eye towards putting together an all-girl group for his label. Despite his involvement and the perception that they’re merely Snoop’s “eye candy,” the Angels’ self-titled debut, released in November 2000, features much of their own writing, augmented by production by Battlecat, Meech Wells, Fredwreck and JellyRoll, and guests like Layzie Bone and Snoop himself. |
