Welcome !
    Monifah
She’s come straight outta Spanish Harlem to become one of the R&B world’s hottest divas, setting aside her first love, theater in favor of the music biz. Encouraged by her family to participate in musicals as a kid, Monifah Carter turned that experience into a singing career, becoming a protégé of rapper Heavy D and releasing her debut single on the soundtrack of New York Undercover in 1995. It made quite a splash, and her eagerly-waited debut album, Moods … Moments was released on Universal the following year, with the obligatory cameo by Heavy D included. Heavy was back for the 1998 follow-up, Mo-Hogany, and Monifah got help from names like Queen Latifah and others, but she also took more of a hands-on role on the album, which set out her sassy, sexy agenda clearly with the opening “Monifa’s Anthem/Bad Girl.” She then turned down a chance to be in the Broadway version of the hit musical Rent, choosing to work on her third album instead with executive producer Teddy Riley. The disc, titled Home, reflects Monifah’s commitment to hearth -- she now lives in New Jersey with her nine-year-old daughter -- as well as a retrenchment after tragedy (her brother’s death of AIDS). The album dropped in late fall 2000, featuring the single “I Can Tell.”
