David Olney
Peppering his brand of folk with touches of rock and honky-tonk, Rhode Island-bred singer/songwriter David Olney became a solid fixture on the Nashville folk/country scene upon moving there in the early 1970s. Before the end of the 1991, Olney had released a handful of albums through Philo Records (Deeper Well, Eye of The Storm, Contender, Roses) that had earned him the praise of like-minded performers Townes Van Zandt and John Hiatt -- Deeper Well (1988) in particular is a touchstone of the modern alt.country movement. After a respite of several years, Olney picked up the pace and re-established his musical presence via High Wide and Lonesome (1995), which featured an assortment of country and roots rock guests like Rick Danko, Garth Hudson and Rodney Crowell. 1997’s Real Lies (1997) came next, followed by Through A Glass Darkly in 1999, and Omar’s Blues in early 2000. |

Alt-Country |
David Olney, the consummate lonesome folksinger, runs like hell from love and relationships and in the process comes up with a memorable exercise in heartache.
